Nitrogen in the carbon lattice. It absorbs the blue end of the light and leaves the yellow behind, and nitrogen is the most common thing that finds its way into a growing diamond. That's why yellow is the least expensive of the three colors we sell.
Not on the D-to-Z scale. A colorless diamond is graded for how little color it has; a fancy is graded for how much. The steps run Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense and Fancy Vivid, and they measure the hue, how dark it sits and how strong it is. Vivid is the rarest, and it's the one that costs.
Yellow gold reflects back up into the stone and deepens the color, so the whole ring reads warm. White gold or platinum does the opposite: the cool metal puts the yellow against a contrast and it reads sharper rather than deeper. Neither one is wrong, and every design here can be built either way.
