Yes, and noticeably, at the same weight. The stone is drawn out along one axis instead of packed into a circle, so more of it faces out. You get the look of a bigger diamond without buying a bigger diamond.

A dark band across the middle of an elongated brilliant, caused by the way light bends in a stretched shape. Every oval has one to some degree. A good cut keeps it faint and we pass on the stones where it dominates. On an ear you'll see it far less than on a hand, because nobody holds your ear six inches from their face.
