THE DETAILS
Diameter decides almost everything about a hoop. Here is how we'd choose one, and what the weight does once you're wearing it.
Hold a US quarter against the lobe. It's about 24mm across, so you'll know exactly what a 24mm hoop looks like on you before you spend anything. Around 15mm sits inside the ear and reads as jewelry you keep on. At 25 to 30mm the hoop clears the jaw and becomes the first thing people see.
A hoop is a closed circle that passes through the lobe and comes back on itself. A drop hangs below the ear and swings. Plenty of pairs here do both, a small hoop at the top with a diamond section under it, which is why the collection is named for the two of them.
Weight and diameter decide that together. Set diamonds bring gold with them, and the further that weight sits from the post, the more you feel it by the end of the day. If your ears get sore easily, stay under 25mm and choose a design that sets the stones on the front face rather than all the way around.
