THE DETAILS
Round is the default for a reason. Here is what that reason is worth when you're buying earrings rather than a ring.
Most of it, not all. The shelf is led by round brilliants, with a few princess cut pairs alongside and some designs that set round accents around another cut. The title on every card names the shape, and the filter above the grid narrows the grid to one.
Fifty-seven facets, arranged to return light from any direction. A ring is mostly seen face-up; an earring is seen from every side, so a cut that only performs straight on gives up more here than it does on a hand.
The stud gets worn most. It goes with everything and it survives a pillow. A hoop is the pair people notice, and a drop is the pair that comes out for a reason. If this is a first diamond gift, buy the stud.
Per carat, usually yes. More of the rough crystal is ground away to reach a circle, so you're paying for weight that never reaches the earring, and demand for round runs higher than for any other cut. Buying direct from the factory is where some of that comes back to you.
