HEART DIAMOND JEWELRY

A heart is a pear outline with a notch cut into the top, and it's the hardest shape in the case to cut well, because both lobes have to match and the cleft has to be sharp. It's also the shortest page we have, and we'd rather tell you that than pad it out. 9 pieces, lab grown or natural, each one made to order in 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold, or in platinum, with prices ranging as low as $1,075.99.

Same heart, two stones. Pick the one you're shopping for.

Design Your Own Piece

Nine pieces won't cover every idea. Bring us an idea or a sketch and our jewelers will build it around a heart, lab grown or natural, cast and set in our own US factory. Contact us and we'll price it for you.

That's the whole heart grid, and it's a short one. If none of it is quite right, these doors open the wider catalog, and a piece made to order is the other honest answer.

THE DETAILS

Buying Heart Shaped Diamond Jewelry

Answers first, from the bench that sets these stones. A heart asks more of a buyer than most shapes do, so these are the questions we actually get. Every piece here is made to order and carries a Lifetime Limited Labor Warranty and a 30-day return window. US shipping is free, and Affirm sits at checkout if you'd rather spread the cost. We make your piece in 5 to 7 business days. US shipping is 1 to 3 business days, depending on the option you pick. If your question isn't here, contact us and we'll answer it.

Symmetry, ahead of everything else. Look at it face up and split it down the middle: the two lobes should mirror each other in width and in height, the cleft between them should be a clean sharp notch rather than a soft dip, and the point at the bottom should sit directly under that cleft. A heart that misses any of those reads wrong on a hand even at high color and clarity grades, and no setting hides it. That's why we look at a heart face up before we look at its grades, which is the opposite of how we buy most shapes.

Because they're difficult to cut and easy to get wrong. Every other outline forgives a little asymmetry; a heart doesn't, since your eye compares the two lobes the second it lands on the stone. Fewer get cut, and the ones that come out right cost more to buy in. That's the honest reason this page holds nine pieces rather than ninety. It's also why we make hearts to order: if you want one in a design that isn't listed here, contact us and we'll quote it.

Don't go much below half a carat. Under that the lobes and the cleft get hard to read at arm's length, the prongs cover part of the outline, and the stone starts to look like a round somebody sat on. A heart is the one shape where size and the shape itself are the same decision, so it's better to buy a well cut half carat heart than a bigger one that has lost its outline. In a pendant, where nothing sits on the girdle, you can go a little smaller than you can in a ring.

With a V-prong at the point, always. The point is the thinnest and most exposed part of the stone, and an ordinary prong leaves it open to the first door frame it meets; a V-prong wraps it and caps it. The rest is two prongs on the shoulders of the lobes, kept clear of the cleft, because a prong sitting in that notch closes it up and flattens the shape into a blob. That's the whole trick with hearts: hold the point, leave the cleft alone.

It can be, but in our experience a heart is bought more often as an anniversary or birthday piece than as an engagement stone, and there's nothing wrong with either. It's a shape with an opinion, so it suits somebody who already loves it rather than somebody who hasn't decided. If you're buying for a proposal and you aren't sure, a round or an oval is the safer bet. If the person you're buying for already wears hearts, the question has answered itself.

About Our Heart Shaped Diamond Jewelry

One shape, one short page. The heart is the hardest outline we set and the one people buy with the most feeling behind it, usually for an anniversary or a birthday. Everything here is made to order and we cast, set and polish it in our own US factory, the way we have since 2001.

This page is a single grid rather than a set of shelves, and that's the honest layout for what's on it. There isn't enough here to sort into categories, and with a shape this small you can take in all of it in one screen and decide, which beats clicking through menus that lead to two pieces each. The switch under the hero puts the page on lab grown or on natural. Every piece is made to order in 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold, or in platinum.

Six of these pieces are set with lab grown diamonds and three with natural ones, and neither is a downgrade of the other; they're two purchases and the switch keeps them apart. Prices range as low as $1,075.99, below what the same piece carries at retail, because one company casts it, sets it and sells it, with nobody in between taking a cut. We make your piece in 5 to 7 business days, and US shipping is 1 to 3 business days depending on the option you pick. Lab grown diamonds of 1.00 CT and up come with an IGI certificate stating the origin and the grades. If nine pieces isn't enough to choose from, two things are true and both are on this page: the doors under the grid open the rest of the catalog, and we make hearts to order, so a design we haven't listed is still one we can build. Our diamond shapes guide covers the other outlines if the heart turns out not to be it, and contact us any time you want a second pair of eyes on a choice.
