PRINCESS CUT DIAMOND JEWELRY

The princess is the square one: brilliant faceting inside four straight sides, and four corners that a good setting keeps covered. It's the cut that sits flush against a wedding band, which is why bridal sets lead this page. 835 pieces, lab grown or natural, led by bridal sets and wedding bands, then engagement rings, three stone rings, solitaires, bracelets, eternity bands and earrings, made to order in 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold, or platinum, with prices ranging as low as $736.99.

The cut doesn't change, the stone does. Pick lab grown or natural and the whole page follows.

THE DETAILS

Buying Princess Cut Diamond Jewelry

Straight answers, from the bench that sets the corners. Every piece here carries a Lifetime Limited Labor Warranty and a 30-day return window. US shipping is free, and Affirm sits at checkout if you'd rather spread the cost. We make your piece in 5 to 7 business days. US shipping is 1 to 3 business days, depending on the option you pick. If your question isn't below, contact us and we'll answer it.

A square modified brilliant. The outline is square; the faceting underneath belongs to the brilliant family, the same light-returning pattern a round uses, rearranged to work inside four straight sides instead of a circle. Most princess cuts carry somewhere between 57 and 76 facets depending on how many chevrons the cutter puts across the pavilion, and that is what gives a princess its fine, crushed-ice flash rather than a round's larger, calmer one. Our diamond shapes guide lines it up against the other nine outlines we cut.

The corners are the risk, and the setting is the answer. A princess has four sharp corners where the stone is thinnest, and that's where a knock lands first. We set them in V-prongs, a prong bent into a V that wraps a corner and covers it completely, and on a channel set band the metal walls do the same job down both sides. Set that way a princess is an everyday ring. A design that leaves a corner standing proud of the metal is the one we'd steer you away from.

More of the rough crystal survives the cut. Rough diamond commonly comes out of the ground close to an octahedron, two pyramids base to base, and a square sits inside that shape with far less waste than a circle: cutting a round polishes away roughly half the crystal, while a princess keeps most of it. You're paying for less lost weight, not for a lesser stone. On this page prices range as low as $736.99, and the same money buys more carat on the lab grown side of the switch.

Corner to corner, yes. Face-up area, no. A one carat princess measures about 5.5mm along a side and about 7.7mm across the diagonal, where a one carat round is about 6.5mm across in every direction, so a princess covers more finger one way and a little less overall. It also carries more of its weight below the girdle, which is why two stones of the same carat weight can sit differently on a hand. It's worth reading millimeters rather than carats, and if you tell us which two pieces you're comparing, contact us and we'll read them for you.

Go a step higher on color than you would for a round, and you can ease off slightly on clarity. Color gathers in the corners of a princess, so a tint that hides inside a round can show at the four points, and against white gold or platinum that is the first thing an eye finds. Clarity runs the other way: the brilliant faceting breaks light up enough to camouflage small inclusions that a step cut would put on display. The GIA 4Cs don't change from shape to shape; what changes is which grade you actually notice. Lab grown stones reach the high color and clarity grades consistently, which is one reason the lab side of this page is the deeper one.

About Our Princess Cut Diamond Jewelry

One cut, every piece we make in it. A princess is a square with brilliant faceting inside it, and it's what people pick when they want straight lines instead of a circle: bridal sets first, then bands, rings, bracelets and studs, every one made to order. We've cast, set and polished them ourselves since 2001, in our own US factory, and that's why the prices sit where they do.

The shelves above run in the order people actually buy, counted from a year of our own orders: bridal sets first, then wedding bands, engagement rings, three stone rings, solitaires, bracelets, eternity bands and earrings. Halo rings and pendants sit outside those eight and are in the full catalog behind the links under the shelves. There's a reason bridal sets lead a princess page: a square stone's straight edge sits flush against a straight band with no gap to fill, so the engagement ring and the band read as one piece on the finger. Every piece is made to order in 14K or 18K white, yellow or rose gold, or in platinum, so the metal isn't a question of what happens to be in a drawer.

Most of the princess pieces here are set with lab grown diamonds and the rest with natural ones, and the switch under the hero shows you one branch or the other. Neither one is the lesser buy; they're two different purchases, cast and set on the same bench by the same people. Prices range as low as $736.99, and every piece runs well under list. That gap isn't a sale week. It's what comes off the price when one company casts the piece, sets the stones and sells it to you. We make your piece in 5 to 7 business days, and US shipping is 1 to 3 business days depending on the option you pick. Lab grown diamonds of 1.00 CT and up come with an IGI certificate stating the origin and the grades. If the square outline isn't quite it, our diamond shapes guide walks through the other nine. Caught between two pieces, contact us and we'll go through them with you.
