The outline. Both are step cuts with cropped corners; an emerald cut is rectangular and an Asscher is square, near enough 1.00 to 1.05 long to wide. The Asscher is usually cut deeper, and that depth is what produces the tunnel of squares you see looking down into it.
Yes. Like every step cut it has an open table you can look straight into, so clarity carries more weight here than in a brilliant. It's one place lab grown helps: high clarity grades are reached consistently in grown stones, and a step cut is exactly where you notice that.
