Men's Ring Size Chart: Measure at Home in 2 Minutes

Men's Ring Size Chart: Measure at Home in 2 Minutes

Most men wear a US ring size between 8 and 12, and size 9 is the most common of all. To find yours, wrap a strip of paper around the base of your finger, mark where it overlaps, measure that length in millimeters, and match it to the men's ring size chart below. The whole thing takes about two minutes, and doing it right matters: a wedding band you'll wear for decades deserves better than a guess.

One thing before the chart. Fingers change size through the day. They're smallest in the cold morning and largest in the evening or after a workout, so measure at the end of a normal day, at room temperature. That single habit prevents most sizing mistakes I see.

Men's Ring Size Chart: What Do US Sizes 7 to 14 Measure?

Each size below lists the inside diameter of the ring and the circumference of the finger it fits. Diameter is what you measure from an existing ring; circumference is what you measure from your finger.

  • Size 7: 17.3 mm inside diameter, 54.4 mm around the finger
  • Size 7.5: 17.7 mm inside diameter, 55.7 mm around the finger
  • Size 8: 18.1 mm inside diameter, 57.0 mm around the finger
  • Size 8.5: 18.5 mm inside diameter, 58.3 mm around the finger
  • Size 9: 18.9 mm inside diameter, 59.5 mm around the finger
  • Size 9.5: 19.4 mm inside diameter, 60.8 mm around the finger
  • Size 10: 19.8 mm inside diameter, 62.1 mm around the finger
  • Size 10.5: 20.2 mm inside diameter, 63.4 mm around the finger
  • Size 11: 20.6 mm inside diameter, 64.6 mm around the finger
  • Size 11.5: 21.0 mm inside diameter, 65.9 mm around the finger
  • Size 12: 21.4 mm inside diameter, 67.2 mm around the finger
  • Size 13: 22.2 mm inside diameter, 69.7 mm around the finger
  • Size 14: 23.0 mm inside diameter, 72.3 mm around the finger

What Is the Ring Size Chart in CM and Inches?

Same chart, different units. If your tape measure reads in centimeters or inches, use these anchors and split the difference for half sizes:

  • 5.4 cm (2.14 in) around: size 7
  • 5.7 cm (2.24 in) around: size 8
  • 6.0 cm (2.34 in) around: size 9
  • 6.2 cm (2.44 in) around: size 10
  • 6.5 cm (2.54 in) around: size 11
  • 6.7 cm (2.65 in) around: size 12
  • 7.0 cm (2.74 in) around: size 13
  • 7.2 cm (2.85 in) around: size 14

So if you've been wondering what ring size 7 cm is, that's a US size 13. A 6 cm finger is a size 9. Anything between two anchors, round up to the nearest half size rather than down; a slightly loose ring is wearable, a tight one isn't.

How Do You Measure Ring Size at Home?

The paper-strip method is the one I trust most at home, because it measures the actual finger rather than estimating it:

  • Cut a strip: Use paper about 5mm wide, roughly the width of the band you plan to wear. String works too, but it stretches, so paper's the more honest tool.
  • Wrap it: Circle the base of the finger, snug but not squeezing. It should slide over the skin without digging in; if it leaves a mark, it's too tight.
  • Check the knuckle: The ring has to pass over it. If your knuckle is clearly larger than the base of your finger, wrap the knuckle too and pick a size between the two readings.
  • Mark and measure: Mark where the strip overlaps, lay it flat against a ruler, and read the length in millimeters.
  • Match the chart: Find your measurement in the circumference column above. Measure twice on different evenings; if the two don't agree, take the larger one.

Should You Trust Printable Ring Sizers and On-Screen Charts?

Printable ring sizers and actual-size charts on screen fail for one boring reason: scale. Printers shrink or stretch pages by a few percent depending on settings, and screens render at different pixel densities, so the circle that claims to be 19.8 mm often isn't. In ring sizing, one millimeter of error is a full size. If you use a printable sizer, verify it first by measuring the printed test line with a real ruler, and never trust an on-screen circle you can't verify the same way.

The better route is a real sizer. We'll send you a free ring sizer before you order, so you're measuring with the actual tool instead of a printout. Just contact us and ask for one.

How Do You Know Ring Size Without Measuring?

Buying a surprise ring, or sizing someone who can't know about it? You have three workable options, in order of accuracy:

  • Borrow a ring he already wears: Take one he wears on the same finger of the same hand, measure the inside diameter with a ruler, and match it to the diameter column above. It's nearly as accurate as measuring the finger itself.
  • Trace a ring: If you can't take the ring away, press it into a bar of soap or trace the inside edge on paper, then measure the circle. You lose a little precision, usually within half a size.
  • Use the averages: No ring at all? Size 9 to 10 covers most men. Slim build and slender hands lean 8 to 9; large frame or thick fingers lean 11 to 12. Order the best estimate and plan on a resize; it's a routine, paid adjustment, and starting close keeps it small.

One warning: shoe size tells you nothing. There's no relationship between a man's shoe size and his ring size, no matter how often that trick gets repeated.

How Do You Get the Fit Right, Not Just the Number?

A properly fitted ring slides over the knuckle with a little resistance and comes off with a gentle pull, not a fight. It shouldn't spin freely at the base of your finger, and it shouldn't leave a dent in your skin after an hour. Two adjustments matter for wedding bands specifically. First, width: wide bands fit tighter than narrow ones, so from 8mm up, go up a quarter to half size (our men's wedding band width guide covers how to choose the width itself). Second, climate: if you live somewhere hot, your summer size is your real size, because that's when the ring is hardest to remove.

When you've got your number, browse our lab-grown men's wedding rings. Every band is made to order in our own US factory to the exact size you give us, and our wedding rings guide can help you pick the style to put that size on.

FAQ

What is a normal ring size for a guy?

Size 9 to 10 is normal for men, and the full common range runs from 8 to 12. Hand build is the best predictor: slender hands usually land 8 to 9, larger hands 11 and up.

How big is a size 10 men's ring?

A size 10 ring has an inside diameter of 19.8 mm and fits a finger measuring 62.1 mm (6.2 cm, or about 2.44 inches) around. It's right in the middle of the men's range.

Can I size my ring on my phone?

Phone apps and on-screen circles are the least reliable method, because screen scaling varies from device to device and one millimeter off equals a full ring size. Use them for a rough starting point only, then confirm with the paper-strip method or a physical sizer.

How do I know my man's ring size?

Borrow a ring he wears on the target finger and measure its inside diameter against the chart above; that's the most reliable secret method. No ring available? Size 9.5 to 10 is the safest single guess for an average build, and a made-to-order band that starts close is a quick resize away from perfect.

Is there a virtual ring sizer?

Virtual sizers exist, but they've got the same scaling problem as printable charts, so treat their answer as an estimate. A physical sizer is the accurate version of the same idea. We offer one free, just contact us and we'll mail it out.
